Description
Want to experience freedom while still feeling at home? A converted van sounds great, but it's too big for narrow mountain trails and small towns. With a rooftop tent like the Desert, you have all the options, whether on a Defender, pickup truck, smaller car, or trailer.

The Desert roof tent comes with a lot of features: an 8 cm high cold foam mattress, a folding ladder, and all the hardware needed to attach it to your roof rack (works for all common models).
Robust material
The Desert roof tent is made of 280g canvas. The combination of 65% polyester and 35% cotton ensures breathability and a comfortable climate inside the tent. Thanks to the robust 210D polyester flysheet with a 5000mm hydrostatic head and super-insulated seams, you're effectively protected from the rain. Another advantage in bad weather is the dry entry from below.
Optional awning
For our Desert roof tent, we also offer matching awnings to expand your living area.
The awning is attached to the roof tent with sturdy YKK zippers. The inner floor of the spacious awning is waterproof and can be removed when not in use. The walls protect you from icy drizzle and wind on cold days (the breathable fabric of the awning is not completely waterproof, unlike the roof tent) and from the blazing sun in summer. What's perfect is that you can open the windows when needed, but they are then additionally protected by mosquito nets.
Suitable for all vehicle models
Our roof tents are suitable for all vehicle models. All you need is a roof rack (we're happy if you buy one from horntools, but if you already have another roof rack, you're welcome to use that one). The roof tent is then attached to the roof rack. Everything you need is included with the roof tent. Whether it's a T5, T6, Jimny, Ford Ranger, pickup, VW Bus, station wagon, or Golf – the Desert fits on every car. Please note the roof load capacity of your vehicle. You can find this in the owner's manual or online. The roof load must be sufficient to support the roof tent. Easy assembly in just 5 minutes
The Desert pop-up tent can be set up on the roof of your car in about five minutes. A few simple steps: lowering the tent using a ladder and securing the guy poles to the windows – and your Desert is set up. A detailed setup video for all pop-up tent models can be found here:

Delivery:
Delivery within the European Union is free of charge from €100 and applies to the majority of items in our portfolio. Exceptions are freight shipments over 30kg, which must be shipped on a pallet (e.g. roof tents, drawer pull-outs, rock sliders, some cable winches).
Returns:
For returns, please contact our team and we will send you a returns label. The costs for the return shipment are borne by the buyer.
Assembly and disassembly is simple and logical. The roof tent made us very flexible, everything was quickly packed up and ready for the onward journey.
We went for the Desert 220. It offers more than enough space for 2 adults and two children aged 3 and 7. The first night even brought pouring rain, but we all stayed dry and the accessories supplied are great!
I've already had a few adventures with the Desert from horntools and wouldn't want to be without it again! The quality is great and spare parts are also available.I would choose this roof tent again at any time!

Es bietet mehr Platz als wir erwartet hätten. Der Aufbau ist simpel und schnell erledigt. Die Verarbeitung lässt keine Wünsche offen und auch die Matratze ist für uns vollkommen ausreichend. Das Zelt ist wirklich Super. Es lässt sich sehr schnell und einfach auf- und abbauen.
Die Verarbeitung ist auch sehr gut. Die beigelegte Anleitung könnte etwas detaillierter sein, aber die Anleitung die man sich Online runterladen kann, macht das wieder wett. Die Leiter lässt sich einfach an die Fahrzeughöhe anpassen. Generell bin ich sehr zufrieden.
Natürlich muss man beim ersten Mal mit mehr Zeit rechnen, bis alles aufgebaut ist. Allerdings geht es dann umso schnell und das Zelt ist innerhalb weniger Minuten einsatzbereit.
Die 165 cm Variante bietet sehr viel Platz innen.
Der Abbau geht auch spielend leicht, besonders wenn man zu zweit ist.
Die Transporthülle ist sehr dick und Wetterfest, daher wird das Zelt bei uns jetzt permanent am Auto montiert bleiben.

Wir hatten das Dachzelt auf einem Mitsubishi Outlander in Gebrauch, 2 Erwachsene + Hund. Das Auf- und Abbauen ist einfach und logisch. Durch das Dachzelt waren wir sehr flexibel, es war schnell alles zusammengepackt und fertig für die Weiterreise. Das Vorzelt war problemlos zu montieren und ermöglichte ein nettes Zusammensitzen, auch bei schlechtem Wetter.
Die Matratzen sind etwas hart, wir haben hier mit aufblasbaren Isomatten Abhilfe geschaffen.
Das Dachzelt ist sehr geräumig und durch die vielen Fenster hat man immer irgendwo die Möglichkeit hinaus zu schauen, je nach Stellplatz sehr von Vorteil!
Wir haben uns, für das Desert 220 entschieden. Für 2 Erwachsene und zwei Kinder von 3 und 7 Jahren, bietet es mehr als ausreichend Platz.
Montiert wurde es auf einen Isuzu DMAX und als Grundträger wurde ebenfalls ein Horntools Navis verbaut .
Die erste Nacht, brachte sogar strömenden Regen mit sich, wir blieben alle trocken und auch das mitgelieferte Zubehör ist top!

Über 3 Jahre in Gebrauch und sehr intensiv die letzten 1.5 Jahre (Vollzeitreisend) hat uns das Desert 160 zuverlässig begleitet.
Positivpunkte:
- Preis-Leistung
- kleine Fläche auf Dach/grosse Fläche im aufgeklappten Zustand
- zügig aufgestellt, Abbau leicht länger
- gute Durchlüftung über die Fenster - vor allem bei warmen, trockenem Wetter sehr angenehmes Klima im Zelt
- grosses Vorzelt
- Top für Ferien im Süden / mittleres bis gutes Wetter
Minuspunkte (Zeltversion von 2020):
- Wetterfestigkeit (aber allgemein Klappzeltproblematik): bei Wind sehr laut, starker Regen drückt an Seitenwänden rein, Plane über dem Eingang der Treppe ist anfällig für Pfützenbildung
- Feuchtigkeit nach Regen dauert bis alles vollständig trocken ist
- allgemein Klappzelt zwar super für Platzverhältnisse IM Zelt, dafür negativ für Platz vom Auto, da Zelt übers Auto raus ragt und so einiges mehr Platz gebraucht wird für parken
Würden wir es wieder kaufen? Ja - aber: Preis-Leistung ist gut und für ein Ferienzelt absolut empfehlenswert!
Für ein Klappzelt ist es ein gutes Zelt, vor allem um in die Dachzeltwelt hineinzu schnuppern :-).
Es ist kein High-Class-Produkt, aber für uns nach all den Jahren immer noch ein sehr gutes Preis-Leistungsverhältnis und wir verabschieden uns zufrieden davon.
Wieso wir wechselten: Vorteile eines Hardtops überwiegen (Auf-&Abbau/ Stabilität...) bei Langzeitreisen/Vollzeit. Regen-& Wetterfestigkeit musste für uns besser sein für die kälteren/wilderen Regionen, die wir ansteuern.
Tolles Dachzelt! Wir fahren es auf dem alten Defender. Hierfür wird allerdings eine Leiterverlängerung benötigt. Qualitativ gibt es nach einem Jahr Nutzung keine Beschwerden.
